  • On this day in 1993, four members of the Movement for the Advancement of Democracy (MAD) aged between 16 and 18, hijacked a Nigeria Airways plane flying to Abuja and diverted it to Niger Republic. Their demand was for the winner of the annulled June 12 elections in Nigeria, MKO Abiola, to be installed as President.

  1. What is a coincidence! One the headlines announces the death of ex-NEC chairman who prevailed over the June 12 1993 election. On the other hand, the history section recounts the actions of four teeenagers who on this day in 1993 diverted a Nigeria Airways plane flying to Abuja to Niger Republic and demanded the installment of the winner of the annulled as election.
    Two separate events: One is sad news and the other one is a tale of courage.
