• On this day in 2013, al-Shabaab militants attacked Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya as retaliation for the presence of Kenyan armed forces in Somalia. 63 shoppers were killed in the attack that lasted a few hours before Kenyan security forces rescued the hostages and killed 4 of the terrorists.
