  • On this day in 2003, Saddam Hussein, the fifth president of Iraq, was found hiding in a hole and was captured by American forces near Tikrit, Iraq. He was handed over to the interim Iraqi government where a trial found him guilty of crimes against humanity. He was executed in December 2006.
