  • On this day in 2004, local Christians attacked Muslims in Yelwa, PLateau State, killing about 500 Muslims. It was a retaliation for a February attack by Muslim militia in which they killed almost 100 Christians, including 48 killed in a church that they later burned.
  • On this day in 2011, Osama bin Laden was killed by a U.S. commando. Bin Laden founded al-Qaeda, a militant group responsible for a series of terrorist attacks on U.S. targets on September 11, 2001.
