Lagos Country Club to hold fate-sealing EGM on Monday

Members of Lagos Country Club Ikeja are set to hold a crucial extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on Monday. The meeting is scheduled for 6pm at the the Club’s Diamond Jubilee Hall.

According to a notice signed by the Secretary of the caretaker Committee, Telesfore Trombi, the meeting’s agenda is: “Presentation and ratification of the Caretaker Committee’s Review of the Disciplinary Committee’s report as directed in the Consent judgment.”

It should be recalled that the foremost sports and family club has been embroiled in internal crisis for the past 14 months, following allegations of corruption brought againt former President of the Club, Seyi AAdewunmi and other Management Council members.

This action triggered series of court cases which were later streamlined into one. In July 2024, a consent judgment was delivered with the aim of resolving the crisis.

However, the previous caretaker committee could not bring to fruition the conditions necessary for an amicable settlement via the consent judgment. This prompted an intervention by three Trustees of the Club – Aare Kola Oyefeso, Chief Oliver Ogbonna and Prince Kunle Adesina – to raise a new caretaker committee.

This new committee was charged on fulfilling the terms of the consent judgment, setting up the electoral process and managing the club till transition to elected officers by June 2025.

While the 75 year old Club has managed to function in the past one year, services have been epilectic, a situation many members do not like. However, decisions at the EGM would determine how fast or otherwise the Club returns to normalcy.
