In a deviation from the norm, the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja recently hosted its annual Youth Week in a spectacular fashion.
The three day fiesta started on Thursday, February 22 and the first two days featured games like Water Polo, Basketball and football in which teens of the Club enthusiastically participated in.
On Saturday, February 24 which was the grand finale, there was a tech talk which was delivered by Fortune Okoye, a tech entrepreneur. He spoke on the topic, ‘The pros and cons of Social Media’, where he urged youths that attended to be conscious of their trails when using the internet or any social media.
“When using the internet, try and avoid anything you know that would make you beg the police or that you would not be proud of,” Okoye said.
“Don’t be tempted and think what you’re doing online cannot be accessible by anyone. In today’s world, the only thing that cannot be accessed is what has not been done.”
Prizes were later given to the teens that participated in the games. The icing on the cake was however, the lavish pool party, which followed in the evening and continued into the early hours of the next day.
The pool party, a first of its kind in the Club’s history, had as guest star ‘Koni Koni Luv’ crooner, Klever Jay, and attracted both the young and the young-at-heart. In the well-decorated venue, the pool glistened under lights as members and their guests were treated to the best of music entertainment supplied by DJ as well as food and drinks.
Also present were the President of Lagos Country Club, Seyi Adewunmi, and some Management Council members. The appearance of Klever Jay, who dished out tunes, took his fans on a memory lane as they sang along to his songs.
The event enjoyed the support of sponsors like Fembol Group, Guinness Nigeria Plc and Asset Matrix Microfinance Bank.
“We cannot afford to leave behind our teenagers and youths,” said Sesan Asani, chairman of the Youth Committee of Lagos Country Club, Ikeja, organisers of the event.
“The aim of the week is to embrace more younger members to be more active in club activities.”
