Nigeria’s foremost family club, Lagos Country Club, Ikeja joined in the celebration of the 80th birthday celebration of the paramount traditional ruler of Abeokuta, HRH Oba Adedotun Gbadebo. The event which held last Thursday was a kaleidoscopic feast.
Leading the contingent was the President of the Club, Seyi Adewunmi, to attend a church service in the Oba’s honour at the St Peter’s Cathedral Abeokuta. Also in attendance were also the Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who also represented President Bola Tinubu, former president Olusegun Obasanjo, former Ogun State governors – Aremo Segun Osoba and Sen Ibikunle Amosun, many politicians, Royal Fathers and illustrious Ogun State sons and daughters.
Later, at a lavish reception held at the palace, Mr Adewunmi, on behalf of the Club, presented a giant portrait to the monarch. The Alake, a member of Lagos Country Club, before ascending the throne, was a regular user of the Club. The Alake expressed his gratitude and enjoined the Club to continue waxing stronger in promoting unity.
Also, over the weekend, Lagos Country Club concluded hosting members of sister clubs – Ikeja Club and Benin Club to a three-day inter-club sporting fiesta. Over 100 members from the three clubs participated in football, swimming, tennis, table tennis, squash, darts, scrabble and snooker.
