FGC Warri Alumni honour Ambode at Lagos End-of-Year celebration

The Lagos Branch of the Federal Government College, Warri Old Students Association (FEGOCOWOSA) on Saturday, December 20, 2025, held its End-of-Year Party and Non-Elective Annual General Meeting in grand style, celebrating unity, service and alumni excellence.

The colourful gathering, which was held in Ikoyi, Lagos, was hosted by former Lagos State Governor and FGC Warri alumnus, Akinwunmi Ambode, alongside legal luminary Uyi Akpata. The event attracted a wide cross-section of old students, spanning multiple graduating sets, who converged to round off the year in an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie.

One of the highlights of the evening was the special recognition accorded Ambode, whose long-standing commitment to the FGC Warri community and consistent support for alumni initiatives earned him glowing tributes from members. Attendees described the former governor as a unifying figure whose leadership journey continues to inspire old students across generations. He was presented with an award certificate of excellence and a customised jersey with the inscription, ‘Ambods’, a nickname he was called in FGC Warri while he was a student there between 1974 and 1981.

“This kind of award consolidates my belief. in what I’ve always been doing wayback,” said Ambode, while expressing his appreciation to the association.

“You don’t see me receiving awards. I always try to avoid them. But this one is not an immoral award. I didn’t pay for it. Thank you very much.”

Ambode is an active member of FEGOCOWOSA where he was a two-time chairman of the Lagos State Branch, and former National President of the Association, a position he held for three years.

The celebration featured lively interactions, shared memories, fine dining and a symbolic cutting of the 2025 end-of-year cake, marked with the association’s colours and insignia.

Beyond the festivities, the Non-Elective AGM provided an opportunity for members to reflect on the association’s activities over the year and reaffirm their commitment to strengthening alumni engagement and supporting the growth of their alma mater.
