- On this day in 2002, Barnabas Igwe, president of the Nigerian Bar Association in Anambra State, and his wife were brutally killed by a group of people armed with machetes. Igwe had publicly expressed his opposition to the existence of the Bakassi Boys and had openly criticised the performance of the governor of the state on a number of occasions.
